So here’s some exciting news…looks like Lifecycles is in post production! http://www.lifecyclesfilm.com/ cross everything that we get the premiere! More tomorrow, off to bed now. If you want something else to look at, have a look at this…http://www.180south.com/index.html.
I realised something today that’s probably pretty obvious to most people.
“If you want to do great things you have to get out more.“
Sometimes you just have to say things out loud for them to sink in.
I had a meeting at work today with someone who’s passionate about the things that they do. I don’t just mean passionate to the extent that they’ve made it a hobby, I mean passionate to the extent that they’ve made it their life. I left in not only in awe of this person but also embarrased that I couldn’t match them for knowledge of, or dedication to, a cause. Their ideas were not only bigger than mine but more likely to come to fruition; the scale of their ideas scared me.
So now it’s time to step up!
But slowly…

This week, one run is all i managed. Shocking really. All I can blame are work and the weather. Off to dig out the Fit to Surf book; it’s a great little book with some fantastic tips. I just need to make some time and stick with it. I might even get in the water next week. Saunton’s calling, be it onshore, offshore, small or walls of whitewater.
The thing i’m missing the most is the time you get for reflection between waves. While a space like this is good for verbalising thoughts it’s not the best exercise for arranging them. Sitting on a board 3oo meters out to sea with the rythmic pulse of the swell underneath you is a great way to put some perspective into your thoughts without any of the distractions you get in normal life.
And i think my bottom turn needs a bit more work…

This was taken by a mate of mine on a cheap, waterproof, disposable camera. I can’t remember the date but everything else about that evening is crystal clear in my mind. It was probably one of my favourite, if not the favourite surf that i ever had; 2-3ft on the sets, clean going glassy and long period swell that meant you could paddle out dry hair. And it was empty. Most of all though, it was with two mates who moved away not long after this session.
Since then, i’ve barely surfed. In fact, since moving to South East Wales, with its tide dependent breaks, dirty water and crowds, i’ve only surfed three times in almost as many years. Which means that I’ve lost the fitness and with the fitness goes the desire.
So it’s time to get back to it, first with the fitness and then with the surfing. I’ll try and keep you up to date with the fitness; if the rain lets up I’m running tomorrow. And as soon as I’m back in the water, I’ll let you know.

So, here’s the deal…and this time i mean it…i’m going to start actually writing about things here. First up, NWD10, the film by Freeride that completes the series. I didn’t make it to the premiere but by all accounts it went off big style! Really glad that it went so well; we took a bit of a risk this time out, hiring both screens of the Little Theatre, increasing our available capacity by almost 50% and our costs likewise.
It’s a shame that there won’t be another one next year. Both the events we’ve staged have been fantastic, but that’s not to say there won’t be other projects. Really looking forward to the new films by Lifecycles and Anthill, both created by people with a fantastic eye for an image. Lets just hope they finish them; we’ve been hanging on for lifecycles for too long now!
And Cardiff – we’re not done with you yet either! If you know of a suitable venue for a screening (all ages/beer while you watch/not restrictively expensive) let me know.
All this talk of bike films makes me want to go out and ride…and think of the next thing to write about.
